And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1 v 6 (ESV)
One of the joys, as well as the frustrations, of being a Lawyer/Police officer is that we often don’t know what each day will bring. New instructions, a case you have diligently been working on suddenly settles or an urgent matter comes to your desk that needs to be dealt with. Or it may be that the day turns out to very much resemble the last. You can never be sure.
Paul writes to the church in Philippi joyful that his partnership in the gospel continues with them. But he does so whilst sitting in prison. He did not know what was around the corner for him or for that matter what the church he longed to see might face next. However he was certain that God would continue to finish the work of grace that He had started in their hearts and lives, and by doing so bring glory to His name.
As a fellowship of Christian Lawyers/Christian Police Officers it is good to know that we too are in partnership, encouraging each other to bring the Good News of God’s grace to our profession. Moreover each one of us can take joy and comfort from the knowledge that whatever you face this week, as you abide in Christ, the work God has started in your life He will finish.
In the words of the hymn “But I know Whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I’ve committed unto Him against that day.” *
