Word for the Week 17th February 2014

Categories: Word For the Week

by Michael Hawthorne

“The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly” Proverbs 15:2 (NIV)

Words are a lawyer’s tool, spoken or written. They pour out in a ceaseless stream. Not all will have the same value.

We need to weigh our words, to think before we speak. Once uttered they cannot be recalled. Some have learned this to their sorrow on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.

James in his letter declared that “no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:8). We must commit our tongues to the Lord and ask Him to guard them for us.

Prayer Points

1. Pray that your lips may be guarded today and that your words may be wise and not foolish.

2. Pray that you may listen carefully to words spoken to you. Be sensitive to the needs of others.
